your tipper will be geared to haul weight, not cruise at 75/2500 rpm

the EGR valve is a cause of black smoke

my van is a 54 reg 350 lwb hr with 149500 miles , today i have got 535 miles from a tank of diesel and its still not put the diesel light on , i really do think i can get 600 miles on a tank of diesel out of her , i was not really heavy footed with her but i wasnt goin slow either ,70mph on the motorway and she was carrying about half a ton for the out going journey , has anybody got 600 miles on a standard tank of diesel from a 350 lwb

The fill up was 67 L, I make it 40 point something to the gallon. This was on a mixture of normal roads and dual carriageways. The whole journey was 980 miles and took a day and a half. A friend of mine who was racing at the same place did the whole journey using the French autoroutes, it took a day and a half and 955 miles, the estimated 21 to the gallon and about £35 in toll charges. Mind you, he was using a Nissan pickup and drove with his foot firmly on the floor.

I tried today and failed i only got 581 miles and she was on fumes or that what the gage read cause when i filled her up to the brim i could only get 75 litres in the tank and my service book says its an 80 litre tank so i must of had a gallon left in , a quick calculation says im getting 35 MPG

I don't know for certain but it was a new one or nearly new , then( last year).
