when goin for a motor trade policy you have to be precise in what u say as im not allowed to scrap cars unless they are registered in my name i also have a value limit of cars i carry the most expensive i would carry is £3000 only because i occasionally buy a car from auction and make a profit from it when buying from auction you have to be fussy  but as i said before im not doing transportation full time most likely 1-2 at a push 3 times a month for others my truck is mainly used for transporting my own cars i have bought or sold only advice i can suggest is phone up insurance bods and say exactly what u wanna do and be truthful
i put my hands on the floor, tuck my head into my chest. and lean forward cos thats how i roll :)

Neil, i am in Radcliffe, Manchester.

I called the insurance company today to see if i was covered to carry certain vehicles on the policy they gave a quote for, well as it happens i am not covered to carry ANY vehicle.......dont ask, i gave up with them within a minute of them talking.

With what your saying, what does it matter what type of vehicle you carry, yes cost wise i understand but from a scrapper to a £3k car ?

What i want/wanted to do is collect all kinds from scrappers to cost of maybe £20k cars, looks like this is going to be expensive and hard work with the insurance side of things, well thats insurance for you hey.

I will try to find a few decent insurance companies and give them a call for a few quotes.

cheers again for the help

Wolly, thankyou for listening to what Peewee and I are saying, insurance is the biggest issue, you have to get it correct otherwise you could end up paying big style if anything goes wrong, standard motor trade policies will not cover you for doing other peoples cars, the policy has to say for hire and reward and also you need goods in transit insurance as well otherwise the car on your truck / trailer may not be covered in the event of an accident, and public liability insurance. Remember scrapping cars could require a waste carriers licence, if I remember correctly there was a post earlier this year about a forum member who had his van impounded on the weighbridge because his insurance didn't cover scrap cars. I agree with you a car is a car whether its scrap new or broken down but the insurance don't see it that way. There is a bloke in Northwich who has just started off in the job his premium was £3800. Living in Radcliffe eh ? then look forward to getting pulled by VOSA on the M62 at Rochdale !!

Now i understand on the insurance, this is going to be a killer for me if its going to so much, still you dont know untill you try

I know the spot mate on M62, i avoid it now in my job as a i deliver gas cylinders, not that i ever go out over weight, more its the time they take to what they need to, only ever pulled once in 11 year, this was a copper, not VOSA,he followed me for 3 miles and into my work yard and then put his blues and toos on, what it was is that i had my plates on but he couldnt see nay gas on board but i had a full wagon of large oxygen cylinders lying down, you should of seen his face, i think he though i had made his day
