2.5 DI MPG - What does yours do?

Dover to home = 300 miles, just do it on a tank full ................
at average 85mph tho

I am now getting around 400+ a little to the tank but then I have had a fiddle with the fueling...actually turned it up, but I have removed the EGR from the circuit and this is the result, not a particularly heavy foot and on A roads mainly with the speed averaging 60-65mph. Probably half loaded weight wise. 2.5DI 70ps SWB
Got scared last night though....low fuel light came on (it had done this before but at a higher amount of fuel registering) anyhow I had to keep going...backed off the speed a little and it was starting to get scary as slight hills up and down were playing havoc with the needle but on the flat it was fumes being indicated. I had some horrible thoughts about the AA and bleeding the system, got to the petrol station and 63 litres of Diesel later I am happy but what is now very scary is I had just 5 litres of fuel left! I doubt that would have got me very far. So I now also have a question, what is the amount of fuel left in tank supposed to be when the low fuel light comes on?

Refurbished my Epic injector pump (Leaking seals) filled up and did 425 Km still had a bit over a quarter tank left.

68 Lt capacity I think, divide that by 4 and multiply by 3 I get around 37 Km per gallon or 8.33 Km per Litre.

this is how i work out MPG

1) fill van tank full
2) reset trip meter
3) drive around untill van needs filling again
4) fill van and get recipt
5) on the recipt will be the litres you have put in multiply the litres by 0.22 this will give you the gallons, then write that number down, look at the trip meter and write that down.
6) divide the miles travelled by the gallons eg 400miles/12gallons=33.3mpg

this is the forumla

miles traveled = mpg
litres x 0.22

obviously its only as accurate as your speedo is but gives as acurate reading as you can get.

1994 Transit lwb high top 190, was doing 350 miles to tank but since adjusting fuel pump and wiring open air inlet butterfly Iam now getting about 425 miles to the tank, and its more powerful than it was.

Luke your a wizz My own experience is you can't trust the forecourt pumps. The reason; I always run mine down to the minimum before filling up. Then I can tell where the crooks are. How? Well my tank is sometimes as big as 78 litres that's how On my '96 SWB LOW 70ps fully loaded with ladders; min 350. The most ever (probably had more longer runs) 450 to the tank. 2000 SWB LOW 85ps Auto same load 325 to the tank the most ever 375to the tank. And if you wait for the scheduled oil change it plummets down to 280 to a tank. Hence oil changes are and always have been much much sooner on any of my vans I try and be light footed but it is very difficult at times however I do tend to stick to one rule that is; keep revs below 3000rpm. I find it helps alot. And any of you with no rev counter with a 'normal' SWB that's 70mph in 5th/overdrive. After this you can almost see the fuel guage moving- well if you look long enough you know what I mean.

thats ok but you still have to guess the miles you have done ont the fule you have put in - you may have gone on to the fuel that was in the tank if you get what i mean!!!
still handy as a rough guide!!!

i run my 96/97 on bio now but on norm it does 400 to 440 on a full tank and the gague seems to keep pace with the loss and milage well.
she burns a little more on bio (380 to 400) but its only 68p a litre so frankly i dont care.
oh mine has a non(pre) banana engine so that may affect it.

Right just filled up my swb mk4 Di (70ps) with 49.76 Litres - the gauge was still showing 1/2 full but i'd an idea that wasnt very accurate!!

anyway on that 49.76 litres having filled up full last time i knew i'd travelled 365 miles - or at least thats what the trip meter says.
49.76 x 0.220 is 10.9472 gallons

(miles/gallon) is 365/10.9472 = 33.34 MPG

not bad considering all of it was local short runs, some with a trailer on the back - but mostly the van was unloaded. the speedo may be inaccurate but if it was 10% out it would still be 30mpg- cant compain at that!!!! would be interesting to see what i could get on a run!!!
