I'm with CIS thanks to Frank's post last year: £260 FC, 2 Drivers, Prot. NCD. :)

I've just been round the houses looking to include "business use" as the Mrs uses the bus one day a week to distribute newspapers to paperboys/girls. At first, CIS told me that they couldn't do it on the private use policy and a business policy would have to include my sales job. I told him I have a company car but he said there was no way round it. Faced with a huge bill for a policy fit for a Taxi driver, I looked around at other companies. The problem was, the commercial people didn't want to touch it because it was not a van but a MPV/Bus. They suggested I get back to CIS.

So I called again and got thru' to somone who knew what they were talking about and 3 minutes later, we are covered for lugging newspapers. The extra cost? .... a whopping £13.07 :D

Good Luck, TT 8)

As you already know , my van is an MPV, which is cheaper to insure than if it was just a van :?

When the insurance was with Tescos it cost £520 fully comp , protected no claims, breakdown etc...with Direct Line for fully comp, ptoected no claims, breakdown etc.....£213 :D :D :D :D

My insurance is due this month and I just got the call from the broker, current insurers want more money, always do, the b*stards , but the broker had done some calling around and found identical cover for £419 which is over £100 less than the original company wanted.
I have to be honest I expected a rise since although I had swapped the policy around 3 times in the last couple of months I have ended up with a 2.5 DI where as the policy was for a 2.0 petrol to begin with plus the current Transit is way newer than the old one and worth about 3-4 times as much on paper.
I found that insurance companies have no reason to their rates as when I first went over to a Transit I had rang around for quotes and a 2.5 DI at the time was £200 more than I had been paying, so I had to buy a petrol because of this cost...the real rub was that I was at the time insured on a 2.8 Granada with an evil F**k Off and go away pedal and the Transit was more to insure????
The one thing I really dislike about commercial insurance is that with Fully Comp, you DON'T get a free hire van when yours is being repaired so you can never take advantage of this part like the car insurance premiums. You are simply paying for your vehicle to be repaired (regardless of fault) but at least with Protected No Claims you can do it twice a year with no loading. Not that I have had to claim on any vehicle insurance for around 18 years, other than a side window and screen, but those are allowable claims and I only have done that once.

the house husband thing is (rather than unemployed) about to save me over two hundred quid next month with commercial vehicle direct and there payment plans seem kind of ok too.
also i am covered for carrying my own goods and goods owened by others but on loan too me.
Why pay for electricity when you can get it for free?!?

Just bought a Tourneo, and thought i'd share my experience of trying to get insurance.

Co-operative Insurance no online quote for tourneo
Commercial Vehicle Direct No tourneo online
Direct Line £315.00
Quoteline Direct £330.36 (seemed to think was a Galaxy tho)
Lloyds TSB £325.50
ford.online-insure.com couldn’t find Transit or Tourneo
Evan insurance No tourneo online
confused.com No transit/ tourneo
Asda insurance No transit/ tourneo
Flint Insurance £660

To be fair to Flint, I've used them for the past seven years and have always been exellent. Needless to say i went with Direct Line. Hopes this helps anyone else looking for insurance

You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Took 2 full days to sort my insurance out!

All my NCB is on my car, tried my broker (Performace Direct) got a fair quote £510 comp. Not bad, I thought, untill it came to the number of seats [8] 'I'm sorry, we can't insure minibuses' was the reply. Not bothered by the fact the van has a 3litre engine and alloys, just the amount of seats!

Was told to try a minibus broker, great, untill......................... 'What age is the 'bus?' '1986' I replied, 'I'm sorry, we can't insure 'buses before 1990'

In the end, I eang back my broker, and asked if I took the seats out, can they insure it? No problem whats so ever, so, the 'bus is now insured as a van! :? After all that, I gave up worrying about it, I just wanted to get insurance.

I can see why so many people drive without insurance, they don't make it easy for you to get insured.
