mcapachey wrote:Bortaf.......did you say that you had a Cortina on the back of your Tranny ?.....interesting, as I have a 1971 Mk1 Escort Camper Van with a 1.3 petrol engine ( looking for the best diesel engine to put in it). I also have an early 1967 Mk2 Cortina 1600 Super fitted with an early 1.6 short block VW Passat diesel engine ( engine now blowing oil badly), fitted to a Sierra 5 speed box.

My tina needs some restoring and needs its engine sorted, as I want to make her into a 1600E look a like. Her reg number is OML 169E, so she is half way there. You got any spare bits ? I am looking for a donor 1600E to make super look the part

I also bought a really rotten and clapped out 1970 MK2 Tina Estate shell on e-bay 2 days ago for £58.00

Sorry about diverting at such an acute tangent, but at least there are Fords...so back to the Tranny now.............does anyone have a contact in the salvage trade that can buy a category C or D vehicle, as the price will be much cheaper than a Cat A or B

An idea might be for a few people to share the cost of buying a Van with the Duratec engine, then scrap the van, selling the other unwanted good bits on e-bay........to help recoop the cost and hopefully get your each persons money back.

Keep repeating the process until everyones got a Duratec in thier van

just a crazy thought, but it worked for me and me mates when we were into fitting VW 16V engines into Golfs and Caddy pickups and we could'nt afford the cost outright

only really into Mk3/4/5's but for Mk2 parts try on here :D

i put a 1990 di engine box and both axles in an old ambulance b reg mk11,then done about 200,000 miles trouble free, first time starting in winter, apart from the odd bit that was going to go anyway from regular use,so i would say go modern,if you want to stay on the road.

A word of warning BD, it's not a 2L, why do you think Mark wants to get rid of it? Nuff said..............

I think I've got a 2L crank to fit it.I start to wonder if we really have advanced that much in engine design.I had a chat with a guy with a fiat motorhome the other day he was impessed by his vans 22mpg (or whatever that is in litre/km thingies) my Mk 1 might be a tad slower but with O/D and a few other mods does 25mpg or more and its older than he was! Progress?
