Whats your MPG ?????

Postby Luke » Sat Nov 11, 2006 7:13 pm

Post here the MPG of your van :!:

What you need to do if fill your van to the top drive around then refill to the top again then use THIS to calculate the MPG :D

also include any relevent details ie. body type, engine size type of driving and if you think your speedo is accurate

hopefully we should build up an idea of what mpg to expect from what van :!:

Do not post questions or related topics in this thread, they will be removed - this thread is just for the MPG your van has done :!:

right, mine :D

filled up - 46.69 litres having done 424.4 miles :D
mostly local runs but included some long motorway drives, works out to be 41.3 MPG :D

now even taking off the 10% for the speedo's inaccuracy (it does read high) its 37.2 :D which isnt bad at all :D

Van is a SWB low roof 100 1994 70ps Di and the rear axle is a 4.56 and 90% of that the van was empty :D

Mark 5 SWB120 2.5DI 70PS Low roof.
I get varying milage depending on how heavy my right foot is but between 425-460 miles per tank which works out to 32-34mpg. Half to 3/4 weight loaded, one day I will actually get a proper figure for the weight I am carrying but for now that is a guess. I honestly don't know if the speedo is accurate or not but gauging how all the cars around me seem to always match my speed at the fixed camera spots, I would say it probably is...that or everyones speedos are reading wrong.
*edit* Now got a sat nav and my speedo is reading approximately 2-3 miles per hour faster than indictated, which is I think makes my speedo pretty accurate all things considered when I see some of the figures quoted on here about the differences when compared with a sat nav.

I will add in my axle ratio when I find the code listings again..I know it is a 4. something

My swb turbo diesal was about 23-26mpg but thats local and a lot of stop start work as its been used for local servicing and repairs of local vehicles.
on a run to birmingham last month it did 36mpg

my luton turbo diesal did about 21-24 mpg but that was fully loaded and pulling a loaded trailer mainly on duel carrageways from ipswich to london 3 days a week..

1996 2.0 Petrol Torneo.

Average over 15,000 miles is 27mpg.

Motorway cruising at 65-70mph = 30mpg.
Motorway cruising at 70-75 mph = 26 mpg.
Over 75 mph drops to about 23mpg.
Round town between 20-24mpg.

Pleased to see others getting similar mileages; I've an old but good double wheel high-top, kitted as a camper/work van about 2.5 tonne. 4.63 axle. Currently has a 2.5DI turbo with a *mechanical* fuel pump adjusted to get through a sympathetic MOT. I have to drive very light footed to get near 30mpg; average 25-27. On previous banana engine, I towed a 1.6 petrol astra on a car trailer across the country and got better mileage than I'd have got from the astra - about 34 - but at 50mph.

With a little adjustment to the fuel pump, same engine tows itself and 2 tonnes trailers up never ending spanish 5% autovia hills at constant 50 mph. Needs two electric fans to keep it from going out the other end of the red though! Overall fuel consumption on such very long journeys about the same!

MPG

Postby mickreeves » Wed Nov 22, 2006 10:08 am

My 1989 2.5Di did 30 mpg, and we sometimes managed over 100 mph.

My 1992 2litre OHC petrol did 22mpg, then fitted simple LPG conversion and got 16 mpg. [equivalant to 32 mpg, gas is half the price of petrol]
I once got this up to 110 mph downhill.

My 1996 lwb 2 OHC efi did 22mpg on petrol, then eqivalent 33 mpg on lpg.
I used to drive fast. 80-90mph or more on motorways, foot hard down.
Then I got pinched doing 59 mph [checked on my satnav] in 60 limit.
I visited the police camera unit and was told that all vans and larger MPVs are limited to 50 mph on single carriageways, 60 on dual, 70 on motorway.
I started to drive within speed limits. The MPG was then 25 on petrol, 40 equiv on LPG,
I could not get a deffinative answer to exactlywhich vans came in this limit, but I changed my lwb bus for a swb ,9 seat Torneo with same DOHC petrol engine.
I fitted the latest sequencial lpg system. [£900 DIY]
Now get 26 mpg petrol, equiv 40 mpg on gas.
It should pay for itself in 10,000 miles.

As good as any deisal transit??
