LWB van hire needed tonight

Postby jamiewilson » Fri May 25, 2012 12:36 pm

Looking to hire a lwb van for a trip from manchester to peterborough and back. Anyone fancy a free increase to their fuel tank (hire is £50 for the day so I would rather spend that on fuel for a fellow owner than hand it to sixt) before I go hire a VW from SIXT? I would of course leave my swb mk5 with the lwb owner.

Need to pick up an item thats 2.6m long so would prefer to keep the doors shut and the item dry/safe. I have a fully comprehensive traders policy so your vehicle would be covered.

needed from later on today (5-9pm) until around noon on saturday as planning on getting there at 8am and heading back.

Anyone in the manchester area?

well after booking on-line and turning up they didn't have one until the next day, great I thought and went and brimmed the badger (wife's name for the van???) Needn't of worried he did the 160 miles there no problem at an average 65 mph taking the m62 50 limit into account and about 55 mph on the way back with the tonne and a bit of stuff in the back. Ended up strapping the doors shut with a ratchet strap as the load was about 40mm too long.

Result just over half a tank for a 320 mile round trip or £44 at the pump. That's pretty amazing for a 78k mile van that's 14 years old and I can still hear.

Is that right over 40 mpg? seems bonkers as I usually average about 30-32 usually with my short journeys.

my feeble maths 44 / 1.41 = 31.21 litres / 4.544 = 6.867 so 7 gallons

320 / 7 = 45 mpg :?

I on the other hand used just over 4.5 litres of fluid which means I averaged roughly 320 mpg and that's :) not taking into account the fluid that came back out
