just had a quote for the following parts from peoples ford in Edinburgh
for my R Plate Smiley , how do they compare with other transit owners who are also looking for parts ? and if you have bought any parts cheaper where did you get them from?

Rocker gasket £9.68

Handbrake cable £24.64
front brake pads £38.24
Front discs £40.26 pair

The discs don't sound too bad, but the gaskets I am not too sure about, and the timing belt is way too much. I have bought a full kit for that! Most motor factors will do the parts for your engine.

All those prices seem good from a dealer and alot don't seem bad even against a motorfactors!

That is a Full kit Fred and it will be genuine, Ford will only sell the Belts as kits unlike motorfactors that do belts for £20.

Oh fair enough, Construction Man just said timing belt so I thought that was all you got.

Timng belt was all Iasked them to price for when I sent them an email requesting prices so I don't know If it's a full kit either.

They only sell full kits at Ford

What model is it I've just had my mk4 pickup for test today it needed front discs £55 £23 for pads I thought this was enough but garage got them cos I didnt have time to do it seen them cheaper on ebay

Yes some of those parts are expensive but they are from a dealer and are genuine, you could got to a motorfactors and get a few of those parts like brakes at half the cost.

you did not by any chance ask how much it would cost to fit all the parts aswell.

will be watching your thread with interest as have only had my longcube for a short while and am still concerned where i am to get it serviced. could take a week off and fix myself of course but only in the summer months because as you know it can be very cold up here on the east coast.

the genuine artical is worth double that of pattern crap at least maybe more, especially brakes

my vans are never in the garage( apart from mot time ) as I do all the repairs myself however I am restricted as I do not have a garage but all the parts I buy are usually sourced from A1 auto stores However as it is my first transit ,and I've always wanted a transit ,I did fancy getting the proper ford parts. But apart from the timing belt I dont think my wallet could stand the pain and if the wife got wind of how much I plan to spend on my beloved Transit she might just knock the axle stands from the van with me still under it.
