I used to work as a transit specialist in a ford dealers and we seen our fair share of transit defects, problems where mainly based around the rear wheel drive models the front wheel drives where relatively problem free but there are alot of new transits on the road that are trouble free we only got to see the bad ones, some of these new ones are passing 180,000 mark and seem to still be going strong.

I have noticed this with the fashion business, call them bread van or milk float people, as they wouldn't know a MK2,3,4 or sphincter from a hole in the ground.........

I have a Mk6 125 ps TDCi fwd it is great in a strt line goes very well corners are a bit lairy though.
The new one with the six speed box and 135 ps engine rwd is supposed to be awesome so i have been told these are mwb & lwb only though.
cannot fault the new shape as long as it is a good spec engine not the 75 or 80 ps . The LX model comes with EW . EM . Htd Screen & mirrors not a bad cd stereo. would have another one but would probably go for the 135 ps rwd

i've drove at least 10 other mk6 transits from low roof, to large minibuses and none of them seem to handle as well as mine, it was even better with wide alloys and goodyears on.

now with the tdciengine in its great.

As for the reliability, i think people don't have confidence in todays materials, ie a lot more plastic and what seems like flimsy metals, but in reallity them materials are far more robust and stronger.
The same with engines, who would of thought 20 years ago you could get 130bhp easily out of 2litre diesel.

i dissagre with winterheating as ive had never had any probs with alot old cars vans ive had a accident in both newer cars and van they just basically fell to bits lol and as for the engine all it is a computer nowadays not really much you can do yaself anymore unless u got all the stuff for it i prefer older for reliability
