v6 gas guzzlers

Postby john leeman » Tue Sep 13, 2005 8:49 pm

I would put a Di in mate, the way petrol is getting more expensive every day. our p reg smiley, full leaving grimsby, loading near mablethorpe, full load to berkeley nr gloucester, empty via swindon to basildon 16/7/05 only took £52 to fill it up again not bad for a swb van. fitting a v6 or v8 is like chucking money out of the window, unless you are only doing 5 or 10 a week down to tesco & back then its in style.

Postby Neil » Tue Sep 13, 2005 9:33 pm

i agree i use a 3.0 auto everyday and it is aluxury to drive smooth quiet like a big car but ionly take local work and cover about 50 mile a week so mpg is not an issue but if i was useing 100 a week id be round to the lpg doctor quick

My one reservation about LPG conversions is that the price of LPG will go up, and those with conversions will be back to square one. Negative I know, but look what happened with unleaded petrol.............

You're bang on there fred. As soon as the b*stards in the government cotton on to the fact that its popular the tax on it will shoot up. I think everyone who runs on LPG should be alright for a while yet though, but as you say, its just a matter of time.

My local friendly garage has just put his petrol up to £1..07 point something or other a litre, reckons he's doing us a favour and ensuring panic buying doesn't empty his tanks. As far as I'm concerned his tanks can stay full from now on,never again will my tranny leave oil on his forecourt. The goverment don't have a monopoly on greedy buggers.

ANYBODY THINKING OF A DIESEL CONVERSION HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF PUTTING A 2.7 NISSAN IN , I HAD AN EX LONDON TAXI WITH ONE IN IT WAS AUTO , NEVER LEAKED ANY OIL AND WHEN I SOLD IT , IT HAD 450,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS STILL GOING NOW, IT WAS A G REG. A CABBIE I KNOW HAS A G REG AND IT,S COMING UP FOR A MILLION MILES ON IT ,AND STILL A WORKING CAB. A LOT OF TAXIS CAN BE BOUGHT FOR A COUPLE OF HUNDRED QUID NOW AS LIVINGSTONE WANTED OLDER ONES OFF THE ROAD , IT.S WORTH BUYING ONE FOR THE ENGINE AND GEARBOX , DON'T KNOW HOW YOU WOULD FIT ONE IN A TRANSIT THOUGH. JUST A THOUGHT

That's a point, Derby are gonna be doing the same in the next couple of years, and the Metrocab (the square fibergalss one) runs the ford Di.

There was 2 versions of the metrocab one with Ford running gear the other with Mazda but as they've gone bust I doubt there'll be either anymore.
