They use their money and expertise to make profit by buying and selling? Sometimes you make a mistake and make a loss, it does happen.
This is business, and I've been doing something similar for nearly 50 years (but not in the motor trade) there are thousands of businesses out there doing the same. If you can live your life doing mates rates, or working for nothing, then you're very lucky, or just financially independant.

Always remember that prices are driven by what people will pay, so if it is "too expensive" then people won't buy it.
