Travelling to Croatia

Postby bobson6 » Thu Jul 12, 2018 1:00 pm

Afternoon all,

Hoping someone has the answer. Travelling to Croatia with the family (3 of us) as part of a summer road trip and was hoping someone may know if it is legal to have a child (5 years old) in the front seat of a van? obviously I will have him in his usual car set. I know that the law for cars there is they have to be in the back seat, but I do not have a rear seat with belts.

Thanks

Why would it be illegal?

I don't think there's any country that doesn't allow children in vehicles with only one row of seats like sports cars, Smart cars and vans.

I've always thought the front is safer in most cars anyway.
The front seats are usually about the middle of the car, therefore safest from front or rear impacts.
Many cars have rear seats really close to the back, like a Fiat 500, or some 7 seaters. I wouldn't want my kids in the back in that case.

That's my thinking as well, the only reason I was asking was due to reading travel advice off the RAC which mentions children under 12 are not allowed in the front of cars, but there is no mention of if there is no rear seats.

Worse case is I will have to leave the wife and child at the border and go on by myself!

My kids were in the front van since little.

Only thing I noticed is they’re better in the middle as the seatbelt is at more of a favourable angle.
The window side top anchor point on the pillar is too far forward.
