Cheap Transit vs something not cheap

I've been driving round in my old Fiesta for ages now and I've finally built up £6000 to treat myself on a new car.

I was intending to get a campervan to sort that problem at the same time.

I been looking at nice looking basic campers like a VW T4 but I've seen a 1999 transit for just £2700; auto, Diesel, and with all I need inside! -great value. The smarter looking option has been looking more like £5000-8000.

Now the question is, do I blow my money on something nice to feel proud of? Or do I buy something that is so much more economical?

I'm very much in 2 minds about this. The sensible economist and the living artist.

Welcome to the forum. Well I am biased, and would go for the transit!:lol: The auto box may or may not need a second though, the best person to ask on that one is AndyG. Other than that, I would go for the cheaper one as unless you are buying something up to 4 years old with a dealer's guarantee you could still spend the money and have a problem with the mechanics or bodywork. Whatever you get we can help with any questions you have.

agreed and youll have 3300 pounds left to save or have a cracking holiday with,
the mk5 transit of the age you are talking about is good, but i would have the chassis looked over by someone who knows about them, especially at the rear end , everyu where behind the rear wheels is what you need to be checking most importantly. spares is another thing to think about, there is a lot of mk5 spares around, give us some more info on the van

Here is a lovely cheap camper.Diesel so its doing 30mpg and its automatic.Very nice to drive.Nice wardrobe.2 burner hob.Sink with electric cold water.Electric hookup with double socket.Nice size makeup double bed.Sat nav.Rear camera for revessing.Curtains and blinds .Engine has just had a service including brakes and cambelt over 600 pounds spent ,some rust which is a shame but hay look at the price.A good old bus at a price you can afford. Needs to go to a good home THANKS for looking everyone and my the bidding start or the offers come rolling in today please.

Go for the Transit. Easy to fix, plenty of spares around. I know people with Volk T range vans/campers who are having difficulty finding parts for them as there are so many variances on them. One is having to have parts rebuild, the other is trying to get other model parts to fit.
You're better off with a Transit especially if you wish to do some of the maintenance and repair work yourself.

I've got a 85ps Auto Van, It's the best Transit I have owned and,

I've had over 30 of them!

He is dreaming of 30mpg but, 25mpg is easily achievable.

Sounds the right price, tell us where you are and, maybe somebody

on here lives close and will take a look for you!

The Transit you are looking at is THE BEST for a DIYer from a maintenance point of view
None of this FWD/overcrowded at the front/impossible to work on rubbish

Just check your transmission oil is cherry red and not a horrible burnt brown
Also check that there is no delay in engaging reverse, when the engine is very hot And that the overdrive/4th gear isn't slipping when hot

That's cheap

I wish I could say the same where I am but not to be, VW, Mercs, Peugot, Nissan and Toyota are the order of the day, for taxis its Toyota and merc sprinters, commercial seems to be a mix of them all.

New Veedub looks nice, didnt fancy the Nissan as it looks like a brick (must be a Renault as the 2 are joined) but must admit the dash has lots of space
