7.5t private use

Postby loot » Wed Jan 01, 2020 6:44 pm

I'm looking but I know you chaps will know better.

I am entitled to drive a 7.5t lorry on my licence as I acquired it in 1995.

I know I can't drive it for work as I'd need cpc, tacho, 6 weeks check, 'O' licence blah blah blah.

However, if I wanted to use 1 under 100km to go and collect my own materials and not for work or profit.

Would that be allowed?

From experience what would I need on top of insurance, mot, tax, valid driving licence.?

I'm still looking and no I'm not being a lazy Cnut but the question is there.

Ps, not transit specific but I could use a 4.6t or eurocargo whatever.

What you listed is all you need loot if it for own use
If you buy an Iveco get the metal armed mirror ones
Up to 2006 as the later plastic arms will smash the door window if they get hit and come round
P/s don’t forget that most 7.5t are down rated
Also if you buy a pre mid 2001 it will not be limited
Don’t get an Ateco you’ll put yer shoulder out putting it in reverse
Get a Iveco DAF LF , MAN or if you can find a late one a Volvo

Cheers chaps good info here.

I'm working up things.

Basically it would be to collect the wood I purchase to make the product.

I would be using a 3.5t curtainsider to deliver product.

So 7.5 goes to the supplier as it would mean less trips, and the daily whip would be the little van.

Quick answer Yes.

But it must be 100% for personal use, which means you will receive no personal Gain financially whatsoever at all.

Gains can be a Cup of coffee or a sandwich not just cash.

In that case you would need a O Licence and a drivers CPC because it's for financial gain.

Yeah but who's to know? The wood could be for any d I y purpose at your own house.

I got pulled in a old cargo I had with no o license, I was using it to build house one for myself and one to sell on. Yes it was personal gain but they will only know what you tell them..

Is it worth the risk? He’s already posted here that he’ll be using it for financial gain. Insurance companies will go a long way to mitigate their losses these days and the main reason for that is people being dishonest.

If it has a digital tachograph in the vehicle you need a card to put in it to account for the mileage and again it’s all the European Brussels shite

I've got a digi card somewhere, probably need a new 1?
It is sounding like it'll be easier to just do more trips to the timber merchant than jump through hoops. I could do cpc and o regs but the driving doesn't really justify it as it would be about 25 miles per week to the customer
