Low Emission Zone London

Postby kevin t » Fri Apr 09, 2021 9:16 am

Hi
i don't know if anyone else has had a notification from Transport for London to say their Transit doesn't comply to enter the Low emission zone, which basically covers greater London. My van is a late registered 1998cc 2001 diesel. The DVLA has flagged it up as non compliant, does anyone know how to challenge this.
Thanks

Are you asking about the LEZ or the ULEZ?

If yours is a Mk6 Euro3 Diesel under 3500kg GVW, it should be compliant for the LEZ which started years ago, and hasn't changed in this category. My old Mk6 was compliant.

Only new Euro6 vans can travel in the ULEZ :(

Any transit registered after July 2000 is deemed compliant for the LEZ - if yours isn't for some reason you can challenge this with TFL. I have always had success getting hold of the lez team via email to question it. I can't immediately find the "Early Adopters" list.

If, however, its the ULEZ thats in question then your van isn't compliant, so don't waste your time trying to challenge it.

TFL have either moved it or deleted it... but this is their early adopter list

The ULEZ is increasing in size this October maybe that's why

Thanks for your all of your replies.Very useful especially the one about early adopters.Looks like I might have a chance to convince TFL mine complies. Will give it a go & let you know how I get on.I know it won't comply with the ULEZ when it expands 'not too worried about that as the cost is £12.50? and can add it on to a job.

Apologies, I assumed a typo as the lez has been around in its current form for about 10 years? Any idea why you’ve been flagged now?

When it first came in, you would get a letter the first time you drove in it in a non-compliant vehicle. If you ignored that and did it again, there was a hefty fine. Maybe that's still the case ?

I don't know why I've suddenly got a warning letter from TFL if it's been in force for so long.

The ULEZ hasn't

Interestingly, there have been posts in Landy Circles about people with vehicles which were exempt from the LEZ getting warning letters, my exempt mk5 (due to body style) transit has suddenly become subject to the charge as well

It seems there may have been a secret movement of the goalposts - or a bug in their system

Thanks for the info and especially minormatt for the copy of the early adopter list,do you know when this was dated?
Do you think TFL are trying it on with older transits?presumably DVLA give them the info. Thanks
