Female in distress... Can anyone help?

Postby sarahvbarnhill » Sat Apr 10, 2021 4:33 am

HI,

I'm Sarah. I have a 2014 Ford Custom 2.2 that I use for children puppet performances. Ex police van with 150K on the clock. So the oil pump failed a few weeks ago - recovered and replaced ... cost £1500. I was told there was a risk the engine could be damaged and now it would seem the engine is dead. Full of shards of metal. Need a reconditioned engine. I've found a specialist garage in Stockport who can do it .... but. What I don't understand is, will the new oil pump and turbo also be wrecked now because of the shards of metal?? If I spend 3K on a new engine fitted - am I going to be caught in some sort of sick loop where the oil pump/turbo then buggers up the new engine?? I don't think my nerves can take it!

Thank you very much - need all the advice I can get. To ditch the van or to keep throwing money at it??

Hi Sarah. The condition of replacing the oil pump and similar items is that a partial or full strip down and clean is needed to make sure the engine is good.

The oil pump would have been removed and the sump gauze checked /replaced and the engine cleaned and checked. If they just changed the oil pump then I don't think they did the right thing.

Depending on the type of oil pump failure I would probably have been concerned about the engine being unusable.

I don't know the full story but if it was me and relying on other ppl to work on it.

I would probably look for a low mileage engine and replace it completely.
