Transit crash

Just heard/saw on the local news that there was a crash this morning on the A9 just south of Inverness (on a dual carriageway section).

Said there was a broken down artic with a van stopped behind when another artic (morrisons) ploughed into them, the driver of the van was killed

The bbc news report said it was a pick up so the first artic must've had a punture, and that'd be the tyre shop transit dropside out there to fix it.

Sympathy towards the families which have been affected by this.

it may be a CW tyre van..heard from gw tyrs that there was a bad accident with a CW van in the area of inverness..dunno if its that 1 though..

I know there's a local tyre place that does a lot of truck tyres, and they have a mk6 dropside for mobile fitting

i bet there will be a safety note handed out then to all our tyre fitters soon then.

From those pics its a pity the Artic didnt stop a bit further on as you can see he stopped just past the bend and by doing so would have prevented a death, I have no doubt that the driver may be aken to task on this as a blow out isnt considered deadly and could easily have moved on a bit be it a front or rear tyre, that angers me as some HGV drivers are so thick it defies belief how they got their license in the 1st place.

Also a pity tyre fitter didnt note the potential danger being parked just after a bend but its all to late now

In fairness it isn't really much of a bend, and offers pretty good sight lines. This is roughly the spot of the crash here. The truck with the blow out was probably stopped in the road for up to an hour prior to the crash

Unless there was a mechanical fault with the morissons truck then it was probably a case of the driver being asleep (unlikely) or just distracted

"A van driver killed in a crash on the A9 was Gavin Sutherland, 41, from Invergordon, police have confirmed.
Thursday morning's accident also involved two lorries. One of the vehicles and Mr Sutherland's transit pick-up were stationary at the time.

The lorry drivers - a 49-year-old from Bellshill and 31-year-old from Portmahomack - were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision south of Inverness. "

From the look of the pics I don't think there was any way of getting the truck with the flat off the road, so it was a risky repair.
