Need to drill out a broken bolt

Postby johnski » Thu Jun 17, 2021 5:54 pm

So 1 of the bolts on rear stub broke when I was trying to remove it (mk7 tourneo), I now need to drill this git out, can anyone recommend a good drilling out bit?

I've got metal drill bits but is there anything better?

Thanks

If the bolt sheared its likely seized.

You'd be as well having a nut welded on the broken section and heating the threads first to attempt to remove. You can drill afterwards if unsuccessful.

How much of the bolt is protruding? Is there enough to weld a nut on.

Centre punch it and use a cobalt drill bit.

With the stub off can you still not get enough to weld nut onto?
