Time To Sell Up.....end of an era....

Postby Vandalism » Tue Jun 29, 2021 5:51 pm

sadly ive come to the conclusion after holding onto my mk1 as long as i possibly possibly can, its time to let it go as its not done it a lot of good sat around for 10 years or so so whats the point when someone else can enjoy it, prices seem fairly strong at the moment,

i know it will come as a big shock to people, as to me but at the end of the day it really should be with someone who can afford to do it and put it back on the road and enjoy it

no funny comments from the usual suspects please  i know youll have all manor of things to say but just remember, its a sad situation and i wouldnt be selling it if i diddnt have to but the longer it sits the worse it gets....

really is an end of an era....
we wont be completely vanless though....
dad bought him self a mk3 executive minibus, which is what he always wanted really but they always seemed hard to find for sensible money, not quite my sort of thing but it does have pas and is petrol and drives nice so ill be happy enough with that

that and dads getting on a bit in years so that is easier to drive for him than a big old bus of a van with no side windows to see out of

so thats it...a day i never thought id see come but....the alternative it so leave it to rot into the ground and that would be a real shame

it will go on ebay some point, may be at the weekend if i get enough time to do the listing and well see what happens.... :(

it requires a bit to much work now, would require welding up all over again and panels have got far more expensive these days so just cut my losses and move onto something else, i could do with the money really

It doesn't look that bad, you could just put another V4 engine box in it, sell of parts you've accumulated to help pay for v4, remember you saying gearbox problem and because its German type engine & box hard to find, i know you wanted later type engine but if you stuck an English spec v4 & box in it, you could have it back on the road
And possibly change engine again later

looks can be deceiving

i never had plans to fit a v4 and now the dvla have changed their mind as to what you can fit, only engines made 10 yeas after the end of production of a vehicle so my idea of modern running gear is now dead in the water

and ive already sold off a few bits and that wouldnt come anywhere near the money needed to do a full resto on the body which is what it now needs

ive done nothing with it for 10 years i think its probably time to pass it on to someone else :)

You can fit whatever you want... but you may not get MOT exemption...

I would swap it for a running, driving legal mk4 tourneo type bus

as said, cant have an engine any later than 10 years after production ends, and the rest like gearbox would require a tunnel mod and it says somewhere they dont like tunnel or bulkhead mods anymore so thats the end of that idea

i dont really wish to get involved in full restorations anymore these days so just time to move on :)

diddnt sell as was won by a time waster who tried to retract his bid but couldn't as it was too close to the end of the listing

happens every single day on ebay, all cars seem to get relisted every week

my friend is interested but for quite a low price so might just let it go to him but he will have to give me a load of free welding on my cortina as part of the deal
