Postby KevofCov » Fri Oct 15, 2021 9:13 am

Not sure if this is true. Please somebody tell me that its tosh

You break down on a Smart (dont get me going) Motorway. The Traffic officers will attend and tow you to the next safe layby but no further. Could be a mile could be 100yds. All ok so far.
£150 please........

I don't know, but I think I would happily pay it as an alternative to getting smashed to pieces by a passing HGV who hasn't noticed the closed lane sign

Broken down on a motorway is a scary place to be.

Yes as soon as highways get Involved it's £150 charge, before they release the vehicle, and you have to pay it on the spot before they will release the vehicle.

Similar thing with fire service, say you spill fuel or oil if they attend and deploy any equipment its £300, usually charged via your insurance iirc,

I attended an rtc and before the fire service got to scene to wash down the oil/coolant I'd put 2 bags of granuals downs, they weren't to happy

i have broken down on the motorway but lucky for me their was a hard shoulder highways did turn up and asked if i had recovery which i do rac who i was on the phone to at the time

so they just left me alone

from breaking down to being recovered was about 45 minutes the rac wanted to send a patrol to me first but told them i already know whats happened so pointless sending one just send the recovery truck which they did

me mate broke down on the high level bridge on the m60 in the outside lane in traffic and the police turned up and towed him off to the next junction lol as i had already phoned recovery for him and they didnt charge him either

Same for me...

Except....

RAC sent a van - who then didn't show up and they cancelled it
5 hours later I was still on the motorway, with regular texts saying they were on their way... I chased them and was told they couldn't arrange recovery. Paraphrased but...

"Its busy tonight, and we are struggling to find anyone to take you the 150 miles home..."
"150 miles???? To my OLD address??? The one I moved out of a year ago??? I only need to go 15 miles..."
"ok then a truck will be with you within half an hour"

RAC are absolute crap, the only reason I haven't gone elsewhere is that I would have to pay if I wanted the service from somewhere else

Some people are like slinkies, not really good for anything
but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
