Back on topic guys (sorry!!)

Look up "Gentian Blue" that was quite a common colour on mk2,3,4,5s and is close to royal blue...

I looked it up myself a few years ago and it looks like Ford did have a Nordic Blue too, and it seemed to be around the early 80s. It's hard to tell when looking at colour charts on a computer screen but I'm not sure mine was an accurate representation of the Ford one - a bit like baby blue with some extra grey in it. Nothing like Royal Blue!

Thank you for the further information about the Nordic Blue and Ford. I will look again at that.

When I looked at the colour charts online my perception/interpretation on the colours (variations on blues) varied depending on the device I was using to view them (laptops or smartphones). It can be very subjective.

Thank you for that information.

Having just had a quick look, Gentian Blue and Royal Blue are a very close match. I personally would not be able to differentiate between the two.

Thank you for all the responses to date, they provide an interesting insight for myself.

When I started this thread I had not anticipated that there would be colours that very closely matched Royal Blue but go under a different name ie. Gentian Blue or Nordic Blue. And subsequently looking at Royal Blue colour charts the colour varies from a somewhat pale or grey blue to a dark blue.

On the basis of the above, the scope of how someone describes that they saw a transit in Royal Blue becomes even more subjective, and is dependent on what an individual's perception of what the colour Royal Blue looks like to them. As someone has previously mentioned British Gas Blue - people comparing something they see in life to use to describe a colour.

Just wondering whether anyone has a view on the colour of the transit below ? It is akin to a shade of Royal Blue on colour charts, but perhaps it had a specific colour name for transits ? This is a screencap from a 1984 video hence the poor quality.
