Tyre foam

Y'know the stuff u use to reflate inside a tyre for a temp measure I need some feedback & advice on the above subject please?

any1 used it or is it best avoided ? it's for the spare tyre as the tread is like new but wanted to know?

plus how long would it last would help

How do you mean it's for the spare? Has it got a puncture?

You would be better off getting a patch put on the inside of the tyre, or putting a tube in it, the foam stuff is for if you get a puncture and havent got a decent spare, then it MIGHT get you to a garage, better off making sure your spare is fixed properly, it would probably be about the same price as the foam anyway.

The idea of the tyre foam is a get you home trick, I personally wouldn't use it in my tyres unless I really had to. But I wouldn't use it in a tyre that had a puncture near the edge, there is a very good reason why they wouldn't touch it!

yes it's my spare

a puncture in this position will seriously affect the strength of the tyre - your tyre shop are right to refuse to repair it as it's now scrap - forget tyre foam just buy yourself a new tyre

Try Ultraseal and don't get a puncture in the first place.

IIRC under BS AU159 it is now illegal to fit a tube into a tubless tyre. Also, if you are going to patch the tyre from the inside you must use a 'mushroom' plug & patch; this type of repair is the only legal method of fixing tubless tyres.

not true under british standards maybe but not illegal
vehicles with tube type rims have tubes in t/less tyres like i said send it for major repair problem solved

The trouble with foam type tyre inflators is that you dont know how many punctures you actually have ( depending on what you have run over ) as they plug all of them. If the puncture is on the shoulder mushroom plugs were not to be used when i was in the tyre trade, because of the complexity of the cords a proper vulcanized major repair is the only option.

that decision is down to the guy doing the major repair as to whether it is sidewall or shoulder, there are strict guidelines as to where the puncture is as to whether the tyre is servicable or to be scrapped, altho a lot will scrap a perfectly repairable tyre just to get a sale of a new replacement

i dont like the foam at all
last time i used it years ago i had to get a new tyre as no one would touch it after i used the stuff

i have been thinking of getting one of these kits

and have it in the van at all times
seen one used and dont even have to remove wheel to do a temp/permanent repair , just drill it out , push a plug in and trim level

may not be a legit repair but i would rather get going fast in the rain and cold than unload a van and change a wheel some times it takes around 3 min to do a tyre
