This is to let you all know that my council have now decided to issue permits to all owner of vans that use the local tip, this will be in force as of the middle of February 2008. As I am an owner of a van that is only used for domestic transport and occassionaly use it to go to the tip I thought it wise to apply for the permit. On the form it requires you to declare any other vehicles that is available to the household if you have any transport that is more than a two seater you will be refused a permit to use your van at the tip! I contacted the council and they confirmed this, I tried to explain that my other car was a little 3 door Nissan that could not carry much, they explained that it could seat four people so I would be refused a permit for the transit.
My logic is to take rubbish in my Van would take only one trip, to take the same amount in my nissan would take three or four trips, therefore it is far better for the environment for me to use my Van than my nissian. However, it seems that the council are not interested in the environment, the only thing I can see this being is benifical to the council and yet another way of getting revenue from the motorist. Please if you have a better way of informing the masses please let me know or pass it on. So far it is only Hampshire County Council, But if successful here I am sure other councils will take it up!
