.....I get more enquiries from owner's of 75ps Mk6's than any other model MK6 but the standard remaps i have done on these so far havent produced good power & on my website i recommend adding an intercooler from higher PS Mk6 prior to a remap. Things improve a lot then & i can get a more dramatic increase. Its quite a hassle though & most i have spoke to havent gone ahead..
That lead me to want to experiment with different maps & stuff on a standard non intercooled 75ps to see what can be had...
A friend of mine has had a 53 p late 75ps for some time now & agreed to let me have a play..him being young ( power hungry) & my remap experiments being free it wasnt hard to convince him.. plus he drives near flat out & with about a ton loaded most of the time so it would be an ideal long term test bed for reliability etc.
....Tried a few things over the week with no great improvement & late on saturday a couple of weeks back managed to crash the ECU & blank it. Didnt know why at the time & my Ford VCM/IDS couldnt restore it . No problem as i have many spare ECU's but it turned out to be a Visteon806 . i have all of them in my workshop apart from that one
I asked a few people how to get it resolved & thanksfully got a call back in the nick of time & got it working again ..
With the van running again i tried successfully to write the ECU with the wild map ( on paper anyway ) & it ran a treat..
Initial driving gave a very good increase in low down power..
The ECU's that ford uses , like many makes have what amounts to an " adaptation cycle " to go through before the true & final effects of a remap can be judged & a couple of days later the owner reported a 9mph top speed increase..
I followed him for a few miles the other evening & there was no significant smoke either so even though i havent finished the experiment yet i now have a great set of settings on hand for what is very popular but underpowered model..
The chap is holiday now so i dont know what the new MPG is . I will update the post as i carry on tweaking it ..
If there are any 75ps 2 litre owners on the forum who are thinking of getting a remap maybe pass by Ruislip one evening & have a go in this van 1st. He's finished by about 4pm most days....
Martin.
