cracked windscreen

mk6 swb low roof - i have a crack in my lower drivers side of my windscreen. its approx. 75mm in length (curved) and goes in behind the black plastic trim. according to autoglass website i dont think they will repair it. a quick search of this site sees a new screen costing anything from £65 upwards.

does anyone have any tips on getting a cheap windscreen or if my crack is indeed repairable (before i phone someone to come out and have a look)

if your insurance is fully comp then you should have windscreen cover included so all you pay is your excess,normally about 50 quid depending on policy..im about to get round to having mine done too

my excess is £350 thats why i was looking for an alternate. im beggining to think that ill have to pay the £350, wonder if i can con my way into a heated windscreen

You can't repair cracks, so it wont be repairable. You wont be looking at anywhere near £65 either.

yeah, another search sees that £65 is for an earlier model a few years ago, wishful thinking... ill get my wallet.

Are you sure thats not your damage excess

Windscreen excess is usually between £50 - £100

yeah, my first policy said £60 windscreen but i cant seem to find the sheet on my new policy. ill phone my insurance company tomorrow, i just like asking a wee bit of information first so i know roughly what im talking about on phone to them.

will windscreen damage claimed on insurance effect no claims? its only my second (going into third next month) year of being on insurance on my own without my dad. its dear enough

Not usually

depends on policy some companies now only allow one claim a year

ok thanks, ill phone them up tomorrow, its Zenith Insurance, through Commercial Vehicle Direct, so watch this space if anyone is insured through them.

im gonna tell them its a heated screen hopefully thats what they will replace it with

You'll only get a bill when the guys takes the other one out and it isn't.

wasnt home in time to phone insurance so nothing happening as of yet?

phoned my insurance company, £60 excess. going to go into my local branch of "national mobile windscreens" (recommended company from insurance company)

hmm, nice shiny new bug free windscreen!
