Postby intransit89 » Wed Jul 09, 2008 12:11 am

hello seeing as i got some cash spare for a jack what would i get for 80.00 as i want a bigger one as them 20.00 jobbys not up to the job on a van

have been to my local car shop and thay have one like this

its a sealy 3ton trolley jack with 490mm hight and it has a foot pedel so when you press it down the jack goes just where you want to start jacking if you get me

its at 80.00 odd with V.A.T

might treat my self to some racket 3ton axel stands

so looking at 100.00 for the lot with vat included

so what you think to sealey brand then? before i get one

its not far of this one http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PI ... rer=NexTag

What's this? A new thread?

Sealy are good, but for the number of times you are going to use it a Halfords jack might work just as well. Alternatively, there is eBay of course. I do believe you are acquainted.

ok thanks mike so there not bad then?

its only the smaller jacks sh*t me up as other day as when i used to to jack my van up as you have to make the jack on its last jack up and it starts to look un safe ie one side tips of the floor

so looks like i be ordering one tomorow then

its got a foot pedel as i say for riseing it quicker if you get me
and is 490 mm quite high for a transit? so should do its job 8)

Are you jacking up from the side rather than front or back?

Sealey are good tools, I use their lifting and supporting equpiment and have never had a problem with them, nor Draper.

I have to say though, as I find the standard jack awkward for Transits, I have a 2t Halfords trolly jack that's more than capable of lifting the van, I don't have any problems with it leaning. The jack itself may be flat and on the level but is the van?

If the van's on the piss, then that may cause the jack to be doing things you don't want.

I got a little 2T trolley jack for changing wheels, does the job for £15 but I wouldn't want to do anything more involved with it. When you have a flat you have to jack up under the spring on the front though as it won't fit under the axle. You won't have that trouble though.

I changed a wheel with the standard Ford jack ONCE.
Then went out and bought a trolley jack, £30 from Machine Mart/Clarkes
changed 2 wheels since, and its fine. Even got a small bottle jack for the car.
Those scissor jacks scare me.
I got a little black book with me poems in

I've had no problems with the ford scissor jack... but you have to use the jacking points and be on a flat level surface.

I carry a 6 ton machine mart bottle jack in the van (about £25 I think) which also lifts the van easily!
