As you say it says cheques and postal orders. Just tell them the cheque is in the post. You can also request contact details through eBay.

You could always tell them to stuff the sale... afterall they can't give negative feedback anymore. See if they are willing to lose the listing and sales fees ;)

Surely you have a debit/credit card? - in which case you can use paypal

You can't force them to accept a cheque, but it does seem odd they won't take it as there's no direct fees for them

But if they won't honour their part of the contract with regards to payment there is no obligation to pay via a different method.

It's completely in your favour to use paypal
The payment is instant, meaning you get your item sooner. For you to write, post, then wait for a cheque to clear, could take 1-2weeks. And you'd have to pay for the stamp and get down to a post box.
If you pay via a credit card you could have a good few weeks to pay it off, along with cash back (not that it's a huge amount anyway).
Also with paypal you have online PROOF that the item has been paid for. If the item is faulty or doesn't turn up, you're almost guranteed your money back. With a cheque someone could easily do a runner

As a buyer paypal is a good thing

They say postal orders and cheques but they're not actually listed as a payment method. This means you won't be able to complete the ebay checkout unless you pay by paypal. Did they contact you directly to specify that they don't accept cheques?
