Did you get a PG9 or delayed? Yes, that is a bit much, the last thing we had to do with a load sensing valve it was leaking and only 2 months after the test. They gave us a delayed, but wanted a full test (not that it mattered, as we knew the rest was all good, ahhaving just passed). I don't think they give out 'fix it' tickets in the Met area any more.

We had a PG9 for oil leaks (that was ALL they could find too, on a Mk2). I waited a decent 2 days, popped straight down to our favourite Class 7 without doing anything, and the van passed without a problem. I took the new MOT to the police station with the PG9 form, and they knew less that I did about what to do with it.

if your van has a current mot issued by a garage then they stop you and rip you to bits whats the point in having a mot done :?: the fine for driving round with no mot at all is 240 quid tempting eh

And you did'nt stop and help  Vosa gave a pg9 on one of our trailier's
at work for defective brakes last month. They told him he could'nt drive it
back so he left it in swindon services, then our company de-hired it :)

In all fairness VOSA is a good thing but sadly in life their is those who will abuse this power they think they have, the best bit of all this I have never seen them check wheel bearings when they do spot checks on the roadside, we see trucks loosing complete wheels all the time with devistating results, pity most of them dont really know why they are doing the job, about a year back I took a 8 wheeler tipper in for its MOT, he failed it on a steel air pipe that was slightly dented, he said it could blow, I through my toys out my cote and went ballistic, manager came over and he agreed it was a bit extreme to fail on such a small issue, but yes I do think they are there for a reason, you want to go to africa and see for yourselves what are death traps and then you'll change your mind, also I feel MOTS should be carried out every 2 years like France, Spain, Im not sure on other EU countries, also if the MOT is done every 2 yeras then I feel owners would look after them better as the uncertainty factor sets in, failing you looking after it then you deserve the biggest fine going if they fail it on critcal spot check parts, ball joints, brakes, steering etc

I have to say, that if you know you are running a bad/dangerous motor, you deserve all you get. BUT, when they pull a 20 year old motor in, you can SEE they are DESPERATE to find something wrong. I have also been pulled by traffic police and even had them tapping the wheel nuts, only to fing the only thing wrong was a rear tyre at low pressure. The thing is, with a working van, you just don't have the time to argue the toss, you just get on with whatever they say is wrong and get the paperwork done.
