When you've sold a van

Postby MinorMatt » Wed Oct 01, 2008 10:43 am

Hi Guys

I am about to sell the 2nd van I have. They guy is coming to get it in an hour. When you have filled in all the details and sent the V5 to the dvla, do they send back a confirmation that they have the new owner on file?

Cheers :)

Ues, you should get a letter thanking you for updating their records. If it doesn't come in 2 weeks send them a letter (registered) spelling out the change of ownership. It's a legal requirement to do this, so if the buyer doesn't send off the V5, you sill still get any tickets, and if you complain after the fact might be fined for not keeping them informed too!

Just being super careful, I would draw up a bill of sale stating the vehicle details and the date and TIME of the sale, and get the other person to sign it!

Hopefully that will protect you against any speeding camera fines he/she earns on the way home

Good point, that would be why the dealer of the last car we bought did that. I knew there would be a good reason, and not his love of paperwork!

They aren't all at home...

But currently there is my LWB, A saab, 2 fiestas and 2 minors on the drive and all can get out without moving any of the others! Those are the roadworthy ones

Got another minor convertable in the garage which is taxed and tested but being tidied to sell along with an Austin Healey Sprite which is currently a rolling shell in primer. There is also another Sprite tucked away in the corner of the garden

and now for the ones not at home...

A mini on a trailer stored at a caravan storage site in sussex!
