What model shall i buy??help!

Hi all,
Im brand new to Transits. Ive had Bedford Cfs and VWs and now im transferring over to the other side!
Im looking for a mk1,2 or 3 coachbuilt transit camper..
Ive looked at SOOO many online that im confusing myself! As yet, ive only physically viewed one van thats on ebay right now - i loved everything about it, apart from the extenstive rust!
So...ive looked at mk1 1978 transit - and i LOVE the shape of the cab - the old style.
And ive also looked at mk2 1978, where the shape of the cab has changed quite a lot.
(hope ive got that right?!)
I just wondered if someone could clarify to me which models would have the diesel engine, and what size i should look for? (obviously unless theyve been replaced)..
The prices seem to vary so much, that im now not sure what sort of price range i should be paying. I know it depends on condition - but some people are asking 1500 and others over 3000, for what looks like to me, very similar models.

Can anyone help me in my quest to find the right one?

Hi i've got a mk3 g reg with a 2.5di coachbuilt see it on the last scottish meet photos.
If i were you i'd be looking at everything to get an idea of layouts prices e.t.c
if you know what you dont want it helps,Prices dropping for the winter would'nt expect too much for that money though

Hi Piazza,
What does a mk3 G reg look like? Im only familiar with Mk1 or 2s.
Im really looking for a late 70s, early 80s coachbuilt...Mk1 or 2.

Im still confused about prices and what the going rate is? Id be grateful for any help..
Ive seen a mk1 coachbuilt 1978 going for 1500 with MOT and another going for 3000!
The condition appear to be similar.
I need it for camping - so full working interior incl shower as may be surfing and that would be handy. A bed that you dont have to make up - so that of the coachbuilt above the cab is really appealing to me (so i can stumble into it when im drunk!)..

Like i said you really have to lok at everything in your price range,once you've seen a few you will know the bargain when/if you see it.
The top bunk is a pain in the arse especially when drunk we use it for storage.Try and get one with two seperate seating areas, that way you have a bed made up and somewhere to sit as well.
As for models e.t.c. this site has everything you need have you looked at the mk 1/2 technical section lots of tips and advice you may even find one in the for sale section all

p.s EBAY is a pain in the arse for motorhomes
