Altering speedo display?

I've just got myself a Mk1 Mondeo instrument cluster to fit into my diesel Transit. I've taken off the clear plastic front for cleaning, and whilst it was off, I wanted to set the milage the same as my original speedo was reading.

Does anybody know if there is an easy way to do this? My fingers are too chunky to get in and turn the dials with the tips of my fingers, and I'm woried about scratching the dials if I use a screwdriver as the numbers are soooo stiff.

Any help would be great.

Sounds like a bit of a dodgy request! I don't think those things were made for adjusting!

Not dodgy at all. Really!! I just wanted to keep my existing mileage the same on the new odometer. It would then tie in with previous MOT's etc. The mileage on the new one is also 100,000 more too!!

I didn't think they were made to be altered, but didn't know if there was a 'trick'

there is a way to do it but i am not 100% sure how but it can be done i am looking to do mine as the speedo currently reads 8000 instead of 100000 as i had to change the speedo if you ask around down your local pub someone might point you in the right direction

i am also looking to do this mod myself as soon as i find a dash! let me know if it just all plugs in and works! i need my mileage set the same also!

Don't you just connect a drill to the gearbox end of the speedo cable and spin it back to the numbers you want. Might need a reversible drill. If it is an electronic speedo it wouldn't work.

that wont work i tried that it will just click and do nothing, i just took the out my old mileage assembly the numbered wheels as a whole unit they do come out just be careful and put it the mondeo clocks.

this was the easiest way i found if you get what i mean

i have been told that it is a precision job one sudden movement and you naff the whole lot up but i have found someone near me who will do it for me

i think the going rate is between £15-£35 depending where you go but finding the td clocks is hard

i went down the breakers 2 days ago ,and he said oh you have just missed one i have just crushed it!
he had a petrol one but that wont look write as it revs to 7k

Shame ebay had a diesel one going for £5 couple of weeks back, was on twice and still never sold

why not just buy a cheap old wreak of a mondeo for less than £100 off e bay take the seats and dash out leccy windows and cetral locking along with anything else then sell the engine and box and take the shell to a metal merchant for a bit of cash..
there are always a couple of cheap mondeos on e bay
