Transit Ambulance.

Postby Dominik1968 » Sun Nov 09, 2008 6:48 pm

Hi Folks. :D

On my home from Aberdeen on Saterday morning i saw something rather pleaseing...yay a MK7 Ford Transit ambulance heading northbound up the A90 between Dundee and Forfar. Now i remember seeing a brand new Transit followed by a Connect Paramedic unit passing me heading north up the M74 sometime in the early summer.
As far as i'm aware it's been quite some years since Ford had Transit Ambulances working up in Scotland,at the moment i think all of the frontline Ambulances are either Volkswagons LT's/Crafters and before that Mercedes Benz Sprinters (Sorry for the bad language there folks :( )
As some of you might know and as the name suggests the Scottish Ambulance service is nationwide so it could mean quite a few new Transits heading up there. One final thing i wonder if they have the 200BHP power unit?

Regards Dominik. :)

the Scottish ambulance service signed a new contract with U.V.G/lazerline to supply
them with new vans based on the transit mk7 chassis even tho ford does have front line mk6 units in service with them, mostly they are cardiac, I.C.U and mobile maternity units 90% of the ambulance fleet is made up of VW/MERC and even still some older convoys on as early a plate as Y reg these are v8 cardiac units based in the Glasgow garage and mostly run out of the royal infirmary and southern general hospital`s
the reason merc and vw are being bumped is due to the costs of parts as well as them needing higher service intervals than the ford units........plus the transit looks better

Most of the ambulances round my neck of the woods are still base around the last generation of Merc Sprinter 416cdi, and some older Renault Master versions. Would be good to see Transits getting back into the market.
