Fitted the split charge.. eventually!

Postby darkbluevanman » Sun Nov 09, 2008 11:48 pm

Not that it took long to do, just that I'm a lazy bum!

'99 Diesel, fitted the petrol tray on the left, bought a new battery for main & old one on the left, intelligent split charge kit from the popular auction site (one that senses voltage on the main battery, you just link one batt to the other, fuse at both ends going to the little box (+ an earth)) little box looked a bit exposed, so mounted it through the bulkhead on top of the glove box (ideal, going to place 2nd fuse box there, get in through pocket on top of dash).

Worked spot on, really simple! going to fit a couple of battery meters to monitor both batts, and run some thicker cables from the 2nd batt for an inverter (not a camper!) and some extra 12v sockets too in the back.

Only reason, Ive done this is because we went to a track day and I had one of those 12v fridges running for about 2 hour after we stopped (plus, doors open so int' lights on! (sorting that with leds!))... when leaving fired no problem, but the fanbelt was screeching, so I presume it knocked it out of the battery!

Looking for 12v gadgets now ;)
