Just for Fred

Just so Fred can say she was right or at the very least moving along the right lines.
I had to go into my local dealers today to get a couple of trim parts...like a fool I answered when asked for which Transit I said "A MK5"...blank look from behind the desk, so guess I should have said a MK3 though I wish Fords would decide on some kind of definative answer to what Transit is what but I guess it must be a build year identification thing only.
In a way I am lucky as my Transit is right in the middle of the build dates for the upgraded/model/facelift version I have.....my Granada was a pain as it was a GLX badged model (this made for some fun on the microfish) and it was made just as they were changing things about so it had older and newer version parts on it, these being parts that wouldn't be replaced unless the car had been severely rolled and then repaired...it hadn't.

That's exactly what I have been ranting on about this past year..... I have always beeen aware though that Ford have always talked in build years, and not when the van was registered.

Thanks.

I have never, ever, heard anybody at an actual Ford or other parts dept (of which I have been to many, but not very recently) refere to any transit by a V number. I know what you mean, but these referance points never get to the world at large, which is why most go by Mk2. Mk3 ect. If the public don't know them , how can they ask for a part for a V whatever? It took me years to cotton on to the fact they refer to biuld year, not what year it was registered. Which makes sense, cos that won't change, where as the year of registration could be anything. After all we have a 1985 chassis cab with an E reg. Don't go there........
