Hello everybody, a great forum you have here!
Any details on the Martini Transit!!
Can you offer any advise as to the purchase of a Mk1 Transit Camper, preferably petrol. Any areas that I should pay perticular attention to? I am VERY new to the world of transits but would quite like one for short trips away in england.
Cheers people

Hi mate, welcome to the site and thanks for the complement 8)
The martini transit was one ford built to promote the focus world rally car! I think it even features on Colin McRae rally on the playstation!!! I chose the picture for the header (theres also gonna be a mk1 up there!) to represent the full transit spectrum :D theres a few details on it here http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.ph ... arnum=2038
As for the purchase of a mk1 camper, i think good a advice would be buy the best one you can afford! - I tend to buy the cheepest one i can!! and spend years welding it  I see in your profile you have a triumph herald - you must like welding  but seriously as for specific areas check wings around headlight bowls, check the bulkhead behind the servo, and underneith along the chassis rails! also around the steering box thats an mot failure point! Im going to put a buyers guide section on the site soon so hopefully you will be able to get some better tips from there!!

Also whilst you are under the bonnet, check around the bonnet hinges for rust. No wait, that's the MK2, though sometimes the MK1. Also the steps on both are a bad spot. We have a bloody huge 22ft Mk1 P reg that we really should find a good home for, or we will end up breaking her for bits for the van I posted as 'Nice and Nasty' over in the gallery. Not sure yet. She's at least a 5 berth (or 7 midgets!!) with a full bathroom and a kitchen area.

Have I opened a can of worms........
I seem to have got you thinking more on the subject!
I was hoping to get a tax excempt model to keep the running costs down, and the extra £160 can then be spent elsewhere on it i expect.
But this isn't something i'm looking for right away, unless 'THE ONE' appears for sale!!!
Also, any recommendations on insurance? I guess it would probably be quite cheap on a V limited milage policy anyway.

insurance

I would try for classic insurance, especially if you go for a tax exempt reg. The prices are silly, I tried to get ours on calssic but they won't have it cos we use them commercially
