Metal or fibreglass wings?

Postby merlyn » Thu Apr 21, 2005 1:47 am

I am going to replace the front wings on a Mk1. anyone have an opinion on metal vs fibreglass.
fibreglass seem to be easier to obtain and would deal with any future rust problem.
Any Comments :?:

Both have thier plus points, though I am sure the purists wouls say metal only. I have never fitted a 'glass panel, so have no comparison, but metal pattern parts can be a very bad fit!

I think- looking at the fibreglass panels ive fitted (not transit) that the are molded off proper metal panels and therefore allways seem slightly too big, or mabe thats just the ones ive had!! :?
If your not going the showroom/ minter look then fibreglass hands down!! but they never look perfect!!!
Remember if you fit them make sure they are removable incase you need to weld the innerwings at some time!!
Good points
never rust
cheaper
lighter
Bad points
not as good fit
crack when damaged
:D
