Cheapest Insurance ever?

I just got a quote from Budget insurance for our LWB high top 2.5di - £136!! I nearly fell off my seat. That's with 9 years NCD but the guy next door did it for his Citroen van with 0 years NCD as he's using it on another vehicle & there was only £30 difference. Give it a try if your insurance is due & hope this helps.

dont forget to cancelled the policy next year or they will just take the money and in surance for another year.


oh the renew comes about 1 day before it is due as well, them baskets cost me £60 to cancel an insurance i didn't want.

and they lie about what they and you say and then tell you that all the phone calls are recorded and they are right.


PS in case you have not gathered by now i hate them.

What cover is that TPFT?, Full comp?, Restricted Milage? Unrestricted Milage? What sort of excess?

Just called them for a quote, they said my camper model doesn't exist Ford Transit 100 mk2 autosleeper, 1979. Well it's parked on my drive?!

Sorry sir, but we have seen a spot of rust on your offside rear wheel behind the hubcap. You haven't kept up maintenence therefore your insurance is void

That was TP only, 8000 miles a year - not sure what the excess is . Now Wolfie has me worried. I was aware that i'd have to be careful to cancel at the end of the year but why did it cost £60 Wolfie?

I too use Budget Insurance when all others quoted @300 with 5yrs NCD these came in at 221 with her indoors as named driver, my usual broker came in at 224 without her indoors as named driver . . then wanted 61 squid to add her to the policy have not needed to make a claim yet . . but did make a startling discovery in the back of the schedule booklet....

I do not have insurance cover when using airport access roads . . as I work at the local airport, East Mids, I found this quite disturbing.

Subsequent phone calls revealed that I have insurance cover in the event I am stopped and given a producer . . but in the event I make a claim . . . the phrase whistle Dixie was mentioned .

cancel fee, and 1 months insurance cause but the time they had sorted it out i was 2 weeks into the insurance, even though, the car was insured with my new insurance company at the time and i had cancelled on the phone the day before the renewal was supposed to start they said i did not say the words " i am cancelling the insurance with you" what i said was " ok i will not renew and go to the other people instead" this was not good enough for them and as they kept my credit card details on file (for 12 months!!!) they helped themselves, which when you read the small print they are allowed to do,

if i remember correctly you have to tell them something like a week before the renewal that you will not be taking them up with their offer. but i would also email them or post it just to make sure.

I ended up having a row with 3 different people from them and i lost my rag with all 3 to the point where now have me down as a bad person and will not call me, which suits me fine. but i still lost the £60.

Wolfie, whilst I know that arguing the toss is not the only thing in your life, you could call the credit card company and insist the cancellation fee is returned. They should be on your side, and at the very least freeze that payment (it may be too late but it's good advice for the future) and return the money to you if you can prove it shouldn't have been taken from you account (card) anyway.

tried that but as i had failed to read the small print correctly, they were perfectly entitled to take the money or so i was told.

will add that this was 9 months ago now so things might of changed, but then again you never know.

Not high enough cover...for me anyhow though probably inline with what most other insurrance companies would charge for that kind of cover...TP is the minimum you can have and to restrict yourself to only 8k a year is too light for me, though some years I am well under that milage but others over.

I have just renewed with full comp and a van provided if mine is off the road for accident damage, no milage restrictions, biz use (not hire and reward) £420 (this includes the surcharge for paying monthly the base policy is actually £375, just pulled out my policy document) full NCD with protection, no age loading for the driver (me) as I am not a youngster. The excesses are not too bad £50 for windscreen and £100 for basically everything else.

With the exception of the credit card details etc mentioned above all insurrance companies are only any good when it comes to making a claim expensive insurrance doesn't mean good company and cheap doesn't always mean bad the two terms (good/bad) are interchangable. I have been fortunate that I have the maximum NCD and it is now protected...there was a time when you couldn't get protected NCD on vans...though I have had protected NCD for the last 4-5 years. Location effects insurrance policys greatly so whilst my insurrance may be lower than many of you it might also be higher than some because of my location. Scotland I would expect to be low insurrance since most all of the cheap vans I see on ebay are always in Scotland...do you buy an house and get a free Transit?
