May get Transit for work, which one? Help?

I currently work for an aerial/satalite company as a systems installer. I am supplied a works van ( Peugeot Partner Pah!! ) and am thinking of supplying my own.
Obviously its gonna be a transit of some form, cept the Connect, but i cant make up my mind.
Do i : Spend £2000 - £3000 on a 5-6 (?) yeat old Transit?
: Get a Brand new van on hire purchase?
: Or spend (save up) to get a new shape ex company van?

All help would be very welcome. Cheers.

If you are provided with a van, why would you want to go to the expence of providing your own

Cos its a sh1t van and if i wanna do any foriengers, i havent got logos plastered all over the van. Plus ill get a diesel card and get paid for using my own van.
The other thing is that it would be my first vehicle, so i'd like to get started as far as insurance is concerned. I know it'll cost a fair bit to get started but you gotta start somewhere.
Nice to have your own van too, ive decked my works van out myself, could do it to my own, then its not all wasted.

If you think you can cover the monthly/weekly payments on a brand new van, then go for a MK7

Otherwise whatever you can af-ford


But do check out the insurance first as they really don't like Transit van drivers My quote on my MK5 is around the £700-£800 mark with max bonus

Good advice from Andy G, business use, though cheaper than hire & reward, still aint cheap, my Mk6 is just shy of a grand, with 3 years no claim.

They sometimes do this because a newer vehicle (they assume) is more secure

My brother and his mrs had a mk3 escort. When they went for a brand new one (before they stopped making them) Their insurance was halved

Before I bought this Transit I had a Toyota Hi-ace Power van,
I checked with my broker about the extra cost of the Transit insurance
(being sure it wouldn't go down !)
He said an extra £50 maybe £100, so I went ahead
and got the Transit, when the revised price came through it was
£495.... a 60 % loading because it was a NEW van !

Its the insurance companies that are crippling this country

They gave me a difference of a few quid between TPFT and Comp.

Must be,as i only have almost 4 years no claims..mine was £1400 last year but as a courier now just insure as a plumber damn sight cheaper .. Bloody theifs the lot of them

I must be lucky, as I only paid £172 for insurance for the van I got last week(transit tipper) and that's with my wife on, and she had a bump last Christmas.

i think as a busisness point of view the newer the van the better it looks! ,fords are dooing good deals at the moement on pre reg mk6,s

Cheers for the replies guys. As ive been driving for only a year im surer my insurance is gonna by sky high anyway. I did an online quote on eVan and got it down to £850, third party, which i think is reasonble. That was on a 2 litre SWB low roof transit.
