Transit spec lift

Postby Bryan » Mon Jul 03, 2006 8:32 pm

Is it possible to mount a spec lift recovery device to a SWB van as opposed to a chassis cab? I'm guessing the weight of a vehicle of the rear axle of a SWB might be a problem? Not to mention the chassis of the SWB compared to a chassis cab.

You're talking my language! lol

You'd need a SWB with a good chassis to start with and then maybe need to beef up the chassis with something a little stronger before figuring out how to mount the spec.

Something like this...

But I can't think how this would mount to a SWB bearing in mind the shape of the rear chassis.

Please do.

If you could talk to the owner and get a couple of shots of how the spec is mounted to the van that would be interesting.

You see the reason this project would interest me is that I already use my Transit for a mobile towbar fitting business (for which I only really use the side door anyway) and if it had a spec lift on the back I could use it for recovery when there are no towbars to fit etc. Double use, double £££ from the one truck.

A Spec-lift on the back of a SWB van would overload the back axle when lifting any car.

I've got a couple of 190 chassis-cabs fitted with spec-lifts. The only cars I can legally lift are small hatch-backs and, that is REAR lfting them!!!

depends 150's can take a fair bit of weight as rac used them for towing cars etc cant remember what the payload is but its a lot higher than normal 100's etc 8)
