Hi guys I'm looking for swb low roof transit with PAS to replace my Lreg
Transit who's engine came to the end of it's life at the weekend.I was wondering what does the term 80 100 and I think 120 mean? :? do the terms refer to the engine size or to the height or weight capacity of a Ford transit?

Loaded weight limit., the most common SWB with a high weight capabilty is the 120 though unfortunately unless it is a former RAC vehicle or all the options boxes were ticked when new it only has the 70ps engine. Most people have 80's and 100's, I had a 120 petrol followed by a 100 petrol and now 120 diesel

Engines are 70ps 76ps 100ps and upwards

SHR is used in trade ads to mean semi high roof
Hi-Top for the high roof and the vehicle often had Hi-Cube as a badge
SWB you already know
LWB is Long Wheel Base
The newer models have a MWB which of course is Medium Wheel Base

Smiley grill versions appeared at the M reg and I don't believe any didn't have PAS so you will be looking at that model onwards. Of course earlier versions did have PAS but the money available will factor in as we don't know your budget.

*edit* just seen your post in the welcome section. 3k should buy you a pretty late Transit with most if not all of the toys.

  quite a few early mk5's swb's didnt have p.a.s and btw the only engines you will get on swb are 70ps 76ps and 85ps turbo also the 115ps dohc rac's are 150's and usually 85ps turbo's but top speed on them isnt too good due to the axle ratio :( ex bt's are uaually 70ps and 120    i really should get some sleep

Ok well all the M reg smileys I have ever seen did have the PAS and before that is was rare-ish to see PAS but given the budget he has this won't be an issue as I reckon a V or W is the budget ceiling. Anything later for 3k would start to get me worried. This is assuming a private sale rather than a van dealer as I can buy pretty much any ex BT with less than 40k on the clock for between 4 and 5k on the forecourt.

Oh and I rarely go to bed much before 3 am so if that was a hint that I made a cock up 'cos it is late it has nothing to do with it I just made a cock up

Thanks for the reply guys. I got a budget of £3000 and I'm looking for swb 80 low roof with power steering.I'm looking at a van today which is 2.5D V reg and has as the ad states has only done "42000 GENUINE MILES".Mot 5 months and he's asking 2500 which is negotiable.Apart from the fact it is grey it sounds like a bargain. What do you think guys?

If its grey then its probably ex-BT, in which case it will have had the chassis treated, not sure its quite as hefty a layer as on the RAC vans but will be better than standard.

Is there any visible difference between an 80 and 100 and what catogory would a V reg ex- BT Van come into?
