Parts buying story

Postby MarkM » Tue Jul 25, 2006 6:04 pm

Now I know that some things are not to everyones taste etc but I recently bought some of those fancy windscreen wipers with the spoiler fitted from Halfords, overall not that expensive for the pair when compared to Fords orginal equipment and the bonus of the spoiler will help when I go over 100mph  but in reality high winds it may have a benificail effect...anyway the twin pack form Halfords means one doesn't have the spoiler but I figured no problem I will get another single unit with the spoiler and pay the slight premium, plus I now have a good spare so that is what I have done. Ok this so far just sounds like a parts buying trip well here is the rub. I took a look around at all the boy racer stuff in Halfords and I found windscreen wipers with spoilers, some with LED's some without...the ones without LED's are cheaper than the Black versions I have just bought!!! How the hell does that happen, boy racer gear cheaper than normal upgraded stuff :? :x It wasn't a fortune cheaper but cheaper is always good, sure these ones were all ally in silver and a laser engraved Ripspeed logo so that of course makes them better  but I just can't understand the cost difference.
Incidently I have no idea of the correct size for a Transit and I have used 22" ones as it cleans pretty much most of the screen, for sure no good if you have a forum logo sunstrip but I again am not sure but I think the 'stock' size is only supposed to be 16" maybe 18", I always have fitted longer windscreen wipers to all of my vehicles since I rarely find time to keep them sparkling so the more of the screen I can keep clean the better :)

Well I hope so and as a side bonus ?? When I bought the new one with the spoiler I found that Halfords also sell a pack of the wiper rubber for their own brand wipers with what appears to be enough rubber to do four wipers. Don't need it yet, may even buy a pack ready for when I do need it as the RAC TV advert 'tip' about cleaning the rubbers with vinegar didn't work on my old set.

Try a Halfords trade card - crap on anything unusual but dirt cheap on run of the mill - and 25 off lube, nearly as good as real trade but open on a sunday !

numerous reasons.

Main one was my knees protested at kneeling out on a cold carpark all day fitting stereos and the like and gave up painfully one day.

Halfords has some excellent gear, but it also knocks out some pap on the modifying side of things..

Cheers
