picked up the 2.9i transit today

Postby bj928 » Wed Sep 06, 2006 9:51 pm

the guy bought it almost new from ford, he was told it was used to haul F1 engines about, he bought it when it was about 8 months old and has had it ever since, its now got its original reg number back on it.

i'm not sure whats wrong with it but it drives like a wet fart, i've had more powerful pintos, it struggles to get past 70 and gets there about as slow as a diesel so the engine is coming out sooner than i expected, 24v already lined up, will take the engine out tomorrow and get the adapter plate copied, all being well 24v should be in by the weekend. got a friend going to make me some stainless manifolds to connect to the original exhaust. its got a steal bulkhead so thats coming out as well tomorrow, the reason for that is in my name, BIG JOHN, i can't get the seat far enough back to get me belly in!!!!!

will post some pictures tomorrow when its daylight.

hi john do ya reckon it's got a limiter on it :? :? :? :?
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

the guy said it had a limiter but at 90, i did get it to it once and it does seem to have, i think it just needs a good service but its a good exuse to put the 24v in, as you can imagine i don't need much of an exuse

my 2.9 was s**t with the transit ecu, it seemed to have a rev limiter set to prevent going over 70 in top gear. was a lot more fun with a granada ecu plugged in

 my 2.9 had some strange limiter on it 62in 4th and 71in 5th but it kept the engine perfect and it had done 170k but was the sweetest 2.9 i had ever herd! most 2.9 were limited to 89mph!

Try telling this lot to UK_Andy  His goes like its ass is on fire 8)

Might have something to do with the engine coming from a Granada Scorpio rather than it being a Transit one :?
