Customising the Transit

I was looking at various pics of Transits and the way people have customised them and what fantastic work people have done to them

What do you think vans of the future will look like, obviously everyone has there own works of art dreamed up so each van is unique, but do you think a new breed of customising is on its way, there was a couple of nice examples at Billling that got the taste buds going

Now i have always been a fan of the old school style of customising which is proberbly the wrong term to use, but i would really like to see some more Transits on the show field or even as daily runners with some nice body kits on with a unique touch bringing the custom van in line with the way the style on the street is today, does anyone have an opinion on this

Depends on what you call 'old school' really, to me true customising is when you make stuff fit your vehicle that wasnt designed for it or indeed make the stuff yourself But there's also a lot to be said for aftermarket parts that ARE designed for a specific use....but these tend to be expensive

Here here! And the current idea of 'modifying' seems to mean putting blue lights on the windscreen washers.........

Does repairing the inner wings using metal from an old washing machine count? It's almost diamond white too which is a bonus.

No mate that's restoration, not customising

Also, to me a van doesnt need to be heavily customised, fine if you like it that way and have the time and cash to do it But just making a van look how YOU want it is in itself customising, and it doesnt all need to be visible to be heavily modofied either, I think Luke's Hybrid Mk1/2 will be one of the most heavily modified, but unless you look beneath the skin you wont see all the hard work thats gone into it.

I like the small personal touch but i dont think i'd go over the top to mod a van or car. I like the graphics, but you wouldnt see any on a van of mine.

does my hicube count as a customised van? (its got a one off paint job ) and a 'fat lip' on the smiley grill + mk2 engine

i had to move the middle of the grill section out by 1.5 inches to accomodate an electric fan

I think anything done well is good in my book something like this i wouldnt dream of owning even with the 1.2 engine



but i can appreciate the skill that has gone into it

to me any modified or customised van is a bonus on a standard one, variety as they say is the spice of life

Was it overheating or something

The Mk2 Di has the fan on the water pump, which would mean it would stick through the bonnet. So it has been removed and replaced with an electric one in front of the rad.
