Ply lining & Insulation ideas

Just a quick question regarding this method of insulation! what happens if you get condensation between the inner panels and the insulation??

Im planning on ply lining mine this weekend, and have been toying with the idea of using laminate flooring insulation boards, spray glued to the back of the ply!
Anyone else used a T&T technique

if i was you i would waxoyl first & use normal interior ply

Just as gemini said, and use rockwool loft insulation. Rockwool is fire resistant, as opposed to fibreglass that's easy to burn

For a nice job make sure you use 6mm ply for the sides 12mm for the floor and 18 mm for the bulk head and use far eastern plywood. Beware though some timber merchants are stocking chinese ply that looks good but its only a hardwood face. I normally paint both sides of the 18mm bulk head the same colour as the van interia (grey).When you lay the floor remember once you have cut the boards ensure the joint is on central to one of the raised ridges of the vans floor otherwise the ply will give. Why are you insulating it ?

whats the stuff wickes stock - and why is far eastern ply better i will be doing mine soon

The ply from Wickes is pants and expensive! Try a builders merchants rather than DIY store, something like Elliots or Days.

I dont use wicks because they are too expensive.Far eastern ply is an excellent ply to work with and it will last longer especially on the floor. Also the 6mm ply bends easy without cracking or snapping.You will get it from any timber merchant.

every now and then i use the van to crash out in, when we go camping or if im too tired to drive any further

go to builders merchants 8x4 plywood and inbetween fit cavity wall insulation batts 75 mil not boards batts made from rockwool ,cut them just oversize and they self support,leave no gaps and the van inside stays dry

Anyone tryed the pipe wrap that comes in roll,s looks like foil bubble wrap??

hi thought id just mention a few things on this
did my van up as camper 8 years ago
before doing floor painted with hammerite
whatever materials you use to line vehicle make sure they can breathe and dry out.owing to all the gaps that get left in double skin sections condensation will form and any plastic or waterproof layers on insulation will trap it.
i found that as long as you waxoyl the underside of the van atferwards you can put as many screws through the floor as needed to hold stuff down but try not to screw into closed sections chasis rails ect.or pipes
the screws do go abit rusty after a while but its only cause they are in contact with the cold outside and warm interior allowing condensation to get them,but the waxoyled outer stops the van floor rusting.
mines been like done as mentioned and after 3 years as a camper and 5 lugging around mowers and large amounts of waste often wet the floor is the only part that hasnt rusted.

I wouldnt trust wickes after the conservatory they put up at our house nearly blew down in the wind. Bunch of cowboys from what ive seen and heard. Cheap and nasty materials too.
