Learning skills with a 199x SWB 80

How do i get started in modifications, repairs, upgrades etc. what kind of skills do i need to learn. tell me a bit about welding. why is primer grey.

i would like to add to interior
sunroof, - what cutting equipment do i need.
ply and carpet,

exterior skills
respraying,

repairs on rust holes.

electrics:
nice sound system, spotlights in the roof running off battery.
