Help i'm confused

Postby MisterT » Sat Oct 07, 2006 9:01 am

Hi all , well sitting at my computer musing over life in general and a thought came to me about Transit marks and I applied some lateral thinking and this is what I came up with !!!
Transit's as we all know and love first appeared in - if I can remember back circa 1965 and is now known as the " Mark 1" this was around till Ford decided on a face lift with a new front end and a new dash around maybe 1974ish(can't remember - no doubt someone will correct me!) referred to as the " Mark 2 "and that lasted till 1986 when the second shape arrived and I/we know this as the " Mark 3 " - in the 90's (94?)the people at Fords decided on a new look and gave us the "smiley grille" - so I call that the " Mark 4 " - right?? In 2000 we got the third body style which therefore I call the " Mark 5 " which has lasted till now and we have the "New Transit " just launched which I would call the" Mark 6 "
So here's my problem - Three bodies with a "facelift" on each make six - so how come I see seven "Marks" on the site??? Which one have I missed ??? Please someone enlighten my bored little world (I am in China for christ's sake's(opps swearing now !!)) :D
This Christmas I got a sweater when I really wanted a wailer or moaner! Go to http://www.postercars.com for the biggest and the best!

MK4 Has the same lights and bonnet as the smily with a different grille and a MK3 dash.

MK5 is smily face with new dash

MK6 is the first of the third generation

Applied logic?

Postby MisterT » Sun Oct 08, 2006 6:03 pm

OOOKKKAAYY ! so basically a mark 3,4 and 5 are really all the same and if you use the same rules then the "mark one" with the sidelights in the headlamps and all amber front flashers becomes a 'mark 2 - making the 'mark 2' the mark 3! Thus the mark 2 with the new grille, bumpers and modded lights is really the 'mark 4? Then the 'mark 3' becomes the 5, 4 the 6, 5 becomes the 7, then the 6 becomes the 8 and the new one the 9 - no wait they have deleated some brightwork on the dash so now that is the Mark 10 - or am I wrong???? (Ha ha) much easier to say Series one + facelift, Series two + facelift and Series three to date !! NO??? 3 body shapes with "improvements" on each! BTW - what does that make the chinese transit????

Postby MisterT » Sun Oct 08, 2006 6:10 pm

Hi just looked at the link to the "marks" and it is stated that the Mk1 was 1965 to 1978 - but I have a mate with an 'N' reg Mk2 which would be a 74/75 would it not?

In Germany, some say the MK1 is the 1953-65 Ford "Eilfrachter", because the name changed in '61 to "Taunus Transit", it's the continental europe predecessor of the "real" MK1, british equivalent was the Thames!

Nah I'm in China and he's in the UK - he bought it from a forrestry commision - I think, who had 6/7 they were selling so not 'modified' as they had the Mk2 dash etc as well as the metal work - plus I was working in a Fraud dealership from 1970 till 79 and we had lots of 'Mk2' before 78 - honestly! - I even used one as a parts delivery van! Plus the local police force ran lots of Mk 2's as riot vans etc and they were N regs too and not 'modified' - well not the panel work if you know what I mean! ! Plus I can remember seeing lots of N,P and R regs running around
