Driving on M/ways & Dual's

A few times on these road when l overtake a veichle (usually a truck) and just as I'm pulling back in I notice they flash their lights at me? WTF is that about? I'm leaving plenty of room?

To let you know it's clear to pull back in, it's not really a problem in a van but in trucks sometimes it's hard to judge in the mirror.

so they let you know so you don't have to worry ( my dad taught me that wen i was like 5 ) when he was actually alright

MrMPuk's spot on there If you got a long trailer on and if its raining and you're kicking up a lot of spray it some time's hard to judge where the back of you're trailer is We use to pull 60ft trailers with steel beams on often with a bit of overhang these are b*****d's to judge

We once moved some steel bridge suports these were about 80 ft long
with a plod escort Fastened a bogie to one end of the beam and another to the front sort of made them into a long trailer cos they were curved they were about 12 feet clear in the middle used to get cars overtaking the back bogie and running along with this bloody beam above them till they got past the rest This was about 20 years ago would hate to do it with todays traffic bloody nightmare never again

i used to work for Tanhire heavy haulage, i was drivers mate in the big scammel, we used to pull a 200tonne capacity 60 foot long low loader, moved tanks and cranes and big tipper lorries as well as large metal things built for places i nefver heard of! lol

I also do this a lot and get it back as i tow a lot of caravans.Its just nice and helpfull.Also a bit of camararderie between fellow drivers.

But do you say thank you?
I always do but then I used to drive baby trucks (7.5 t) so it's only fair to say thanks, just don't do it the wrong way with the hazards as that can cause the driver who was nice to possibly panic and brake which in most cases isn't good for the momentum plus of course things could go very horribly wrong and you are down the road unaware of what you just caused by using the hazards.

I used to take it as good manners by truck drivers as well, so would flick the indicators back at 'em, even though I totally didn't need to be flashed driving a normal wheelbase 280. I think sometimes I got ticked off for pulling in too soon as well though, like if it was busy and I wanted to clear out of the way of the overtaking lane, I'd nip back in and get flashed after moving 'cos I'd impinged on their safe braking zone...

I always indicate back to say thankyou.I am also a big fan of flashing van and truck drivers to warn them about speed traps and and mobile cameras.

ditto i generally flash vans and trucks about speed traps hazards etc etc after all its our living always say thanks to trucks too and let them out even if i gotta brake its easier for me to get my momentum back nothing worse than flashing someone and they dont acknowledge it just a question tho as i also drive a couple of 7.5t for my other job whats the deal with irish trucks ? seen a couple of these boys going a lot quicker than they should are they not limited ? and am i right in thinking you cant use the outside lane if towing or coaches or over 7.5t constantly see trailers in the outside and the cheek in the van the other day when flombare the frog in his coach cruised by in the outside lane stuck up the arse of a car the only good thing about that is the fact he mustve been chasing for the ferry so got out of our country quicker

Got done for taking a trailer in the outside lane in the mid 80's, we had just moved back into the country from Holland and I didn't know about the change of law, but saying that it was an empty little 3'x 5' baggage trailer, he gave me the choice of speeding or 'outside lane offence'.

This doesn't happen on the continent, or French drivers are ignorant. I always make a point of flashing (my lights!) at Uk drivers there.
