Well a question as well. I just had my windscreen replaced due to something or other hitting the top corner over the weekend...honestly I wasn't trying to get it done early although all the bullet holes and scratches meant it would have had to be done at some point, it simply went.
I called the freephone number in my insurrance booklet and all got confirmed that it was just the windscreen excess of £50 to pay and the question was asked 'does it have the blue/black top tint?', my answer was 'yes' now since the black surround stuff I regarded as a top tint, as it shielded the sun around the rear view mirror I felt this was an 'honest' answer...you can see where I am going with this So up turns the fitter with a top tint screen, plus looking at the screen I get to realising it is also a tinted screen. I then expected to have to bung the guy a few pennies but he didn't say a word just got on with the job So I now have a nice tinted screen with the additional top tint and no it didn't have any wires hanging down for the heated screen option but hey I got a bonus anyhow so who I am I to complain. Now the question...how can I work out what tint I have since the front is now tinted it makes for the side glass to appear way too clear, I would guess I will have no choice to source the glass other than a breaker of Tourneo's since I am pretty sure the glass (windscreen) is not the correct one for the model of van I have, even with extra option packs at the time.

Oh a sideways thing the fitter drove a Transit Connect and he said they are the crappiest things he has even driven and if it were not a works van he would never choose to buy one. The reasons were, the driving seat is uncomfortable due to the angle and the way the floor falls away, the cigarrette lighter socket is badly postioned when using the phone charger and prevents you also using the heater controls easily, the door pockets are blocked off when the door is shut, the wing mirrors self adjust (move when driving) the load sensing bushes whatever have been replaced, the turbo has been replaced, the front track rods have gone twice, the drive shaft is currently knocking/noisey, the seat tilt adjuster has broken, the window winder handles have fallen off so a good advert for that model of van. Now I know that works vans get thrashed but even so that is a lot of things and most fitters of anything like to have their van work the right way for them due to the amount of time they spend in them.

my brother has a couple of connects along with the real version running out of his depot. he did'nt mention the faults you were told of, but he did say that parts were relatively expensive ; seeing as he is in a position to get an extremely generous discount i found that surprising. it is a pain when the van you work in aint right, i regard mine as my office/ workshop. the other day it needed a water pump, i moved heaven and earth to get the job done rather than have to use the workshop spare van.

i know a few people who have said to me that the driving position gives them a bad back.

yes you will need glass from a tourneo or maybe a custom ie ( tinted green)

i owned a Connect for a few months and driving down the road with my mate he said " i feel like im on tele" and i agreed with him, they are good vans but the driving position and the huge windscreen are strange and you do feel like your "on show" driving it, and then you pull down the 2 foot sunvisor

Oh yes I forgot that complaint, use the visor you can't see.

grey van man Thanks for the info about the glass, it was what I was thinking but simply making sure.
Failing that what is the cost of the glass panels...roughly or accurate if you have the prices?
