I remember being driving it in traffic behind a lamborghini about a year ago. Few people about and I got stared at while the lambo was completely ignored.

That's because people must think the E-Type is a real mass-production car, it's same in Germany with a 50s Mercedes 300 SL gullwing! If you have the money you could buy a mint one everyday, the classic car magazines are full of it! But you know it's very hard to find a SWB MK1 Transit restoration project and a minter is almost impossible to find! So normally if those filthy rich blokes tell something about: "It's rare" or something like that, to explain the high prices, a vintage Transit should fetch more than one million euros...!

Maybe it's not so much that the E type is a mass produced car (or is percieved to be), as I am sure they produced more Mk1 transits than E Types of various years, but there are a hell of a lot less of the ransit left than the E type!

Any classic jag would make me turn my head and look, but they are quite common so maybe my attention would be on the van.

Now, if there was a MK1 tranny mext to a Jenson Interceptor or Austin Healey 3000 I wouldn't be staring at the Ford

OK, in case of the Jensen Interceptor I might agree, but the Austin Healey 3000 is same as the E-Type and 300 SL! But when did you see e.g. a Gordon-Keeble in real? That's truly a rare sight both when new and today! (P.S. I never saw one on the road, too! )
