My beavertail project

Postby greenboy » Tue Jun 12, 2007 9:33 pm

Heres a few pics of my beavertail project i've been working on, its based on a 190 and was used for transporting garden machinery and quads by the last owner so required a bit of beefing up on the rear section for taking cars, have changed the wooden deck for the alloy, resprayed it a more interesting colour, added some lights, mesh grill and a winch low down so the cars can be driven all the way forward still. Still need to make up some ramps for it, probably fairly long ones as the tail is a bit short and steep, planning using it just to tow a mk2 golf gti track car and possibly for a bit of banger racing.

If any one has any ideas for making ramps or even pics of theirs it would be appreciated, I have a sheet of 3 mm alloy which I may use.

looks well mate - like the grill 8)

what it ideally needs is the ramp part starting further back just after the wheel - but thats a lot of work :|

Am thinking about changing it about a bit so that it does, plus shortening it a tad, no plans to carry volvo estates or trannys on the back, seems to have a bolt on section at the back of the chassie so possibly started life as a box van??? the tail section starts just after that. Will get her in for a MOT soon and she how she goes. :D

Nice looking truck ,love the grill,I know I'm gonna end up doing mine.
The hard works been done on your truck,it wouldn't cost a fortune to get a body builder to form you a suitable beavertail for loading cars. Save you a load of aggravation.
Go on let's see some pics of the CF :P

neat truck
my ramps are a few bits of angle welded together with the ali in the middle
they weigh 20 kgs each mind
i put them under the wheels of the car i carry but do have a lip on the edge of the deck to guide cars up/save losing the ramps on corners
put alloy ramps into ebay, some cheap ones come up
tis eye leclair
